l instructed Timothy to be careful and exact to be sure he rightly divided the word of truth. It has often been said, a verse without context becomes a pretext. Seemingly countless heresies and false doctrines arise because of the violation of this principle of hermeneutics. Some say "you can prove anything by the bible." This is true if the word of God is not rightly divided but rather wrested and abused. In this broadcast of Let the Bible Speak, we begin a study about rightly dividing the scriptures. The Jewish leaders came to Jesus challenging His authority after He rebuked the moneychangers in the temple. The exchange between Christ and the Pharisees centered around a fact that neither disputed: that all must be said and done by divine authority. "By what authority doest Thou these things and who gave Thee this authority?" is another timely query that we pose in our ongoing series Great Questions Of The Bible. In this broadcast of Let the Bible Speak, we look at the many insufficient things people cite as their authority for what they say and do in religion. This week's study introduces us to the next section in the book (Hebrews 3:1-5:10) and covers the first six verses of chapter three. The early Christians, according to Acts 2:42, continued faithfully in the apostles' doctrine and the various functions of the church as prescribed by the Lord Jesus. In this broadcast of Let the Bible Speak, we continue a study of the church that Jesus built by examining the faith and practice of the original church. Jesus said that He would build His church. The Savior's promise was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost following His resurrection and ascension. This church is described by scripture as indestructible. If it still exists in the world, how can I be part of it? How can it be identified and delineated amid the many denominations and sects that have arisen since Jesus built His church? In this broadcast of Let the Bible Speak, we begin a 2-part study of The Church That Jesus Built. |
